Don't Look Back !

"We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick:" Numbers 11: 5

Are you ever guilty of "looking back" at where God brought you from? The Israelites did! God had brought them from a horrible life of slavery and poverty and was carrying them into the Promised Land....a land which He told them was flowing with milk and honey.

In Numbers 11 the people started complaining. Verse 1 says this complaining displeased the Lord. I'm sure my complaining in my own modern day still displeases Him just as much! In verses 4 & 5 the people began to weep and tell Moses how they longed for the meat and the fruits and vegetables they had back in Egypt.

How quickly we forget! They surely didn't miss the slavery and cruelty they had been subject to in Egypt. But that's just like the devil. He clouds our vision and warps our memory. They didn't want that old "manna" that God was feeding them with each and every day. We as humans are so prone to acting just like this aren't we! God gives us all we need: a good Christian home, a godly church family, food on the table and a roof above our heads, and we complain! God help us!

Help us Lord to not look back. Help us to not compare what we have to what the world has. God says in Proverbs 8: 19, "My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver."

Don't look back. What God has in store ahead for us is more wonderful than we can ever imagine!

God bless!

Marilyn

Don't look back....oh boy, this is a tough one for me. I don't think I complain, I cry out in desperation, I think.

Good post.

Oh boy am I guilty of complaining. I am not one bit different than those Israelites when it all comes down to it.

So thankful that He puts up with me.

Yes, Marilyn this is great stuff. We have been looking back, and it's hard to move when your eyes are fixed on what you HAD, instead of what you could be going to.

Thanks for the reminder. God is in control.

I am so guilty of complaining and whining! I often think how could the Israelites complained when they were in the very midst of the Presence of God, but I am no different than they are.

God has brought me so far in my journey of grace with Him; how I pray to never look back with longing, only with thankfulness for the strides we've made together.

God is good, and I am grateful for his record of faithfulness in my life!

We often have very short memories. Help us, Lord, to remember.
